Israel Outreach Preparation

Well folks, here is the moment we've been waiting for!  Or at least I've been waiting for  ;op

We are now in our outreach preparation phase and have begun praying together in our outreach teams (there are 7 people in my team going to Tel Aviv) and getting things together for packing.  We depart for Israel Monday, March 31.

Please, if you remember, keep us in your prayers.  I am super excited and not scared at all....just in case you're wondering.  I trust the Lord completely and know that He has plans to prosper us and not to harm us (Jeremiah 29:11).  He's gotten me this far!!!  :op

So from here, it may be awhile before I am able to send you an update again.  So if I am quiet for a bit, it's only because I have not had the chance to find a computer.

I thank you all again for all of your support and prayers and I pray for you too...that God will bless you and your families and keep you safe!  God bless you all and I look forward to updating you again soon!  The next time I update I will probably be in Israel.  Take care!

Evangelism

  • Mar. 24th, 2008 at 10:13 PM

We had Dan Bauman and Danny Lehman speak this week mostly about going out into the nations.  They spoke about we shouldn't overcomplicate things- to remember at the end of the day, it's all about Jesus....loving Him and being loved by Him and asking for new revelation about who He truly is.  All the other elements will fall into place if we just simply love Him and love others.  Love binds all things together.

Jesus gave us the 2 most important commandments that binds the law of God all together and that is: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength.  And to love our neighbor as ourselves.

And it's true, if we simply do these two things, we would never lie nor steal, we would never commit adultery or use the Lord's name in vain, we would never judge or speak against others, we would be able to live lives worthy of being called a child of God most high.  Living lives holy and pleasing to God will allow us to be a light for others who do not know Him.  They will see the love and glory of God shine through us in ways that human kindness cannot express.

If we cannot truly and purely love with the love that only Jesus can offer, we are pointless witnesses and our lives would be purely self-motivated.  We should remember that God not only created us and our families, but He is the Creator of every single human being.  Let us love another with godly love!

Discipling Nations

  • Mar. 24th, 2008 at 9:58 PM

I apologize for not updating the last couple weeks  :o(

This week we had 4 different speakers- each with their own story of outreach and missions.  It has been really interesting to listen to each speaker and then tie it all together by the end of the week.  Although we had different speakers each day, there was one common theme that seemed to resonate within each of them....and that is- OBEDIENCE!

Often times, because of our day in age and our society, we get so wrapped up in the "it's all about me" mind set and lose sight of "what is on the heart of my Savior and my God who has created me and given His life for me?"  Being concerned about our lives is really important, especially to God.  But He not only loves us with pure and unconditional love, He loves ALL nations and ALL peoples and His heart breaks and longs for those who do not yet know Him.

Our speakers shared that often times, sacrificing pieces of our lives to seek God and His purposes for us will actually allow us to receive the greatest fulfillment and blessing than we would otherwise.  That's not to say that seeking God is just going to be a walk in the park smelling the flowers...it's to say that it could and will be hard, yet we will be able to encounter the living God in ways we would never think or imagine.  And because of a humble and obedient spirit, He longs to fulfill the desires of our heart.  The love and wisdom that He has continued to pour on us throughout this week has again been taking me to the next level in my faith.  The Lord has been so faithful as I've been seeking Him and I am witnessing that day after day!

World Missions

Fred Markert

Surely this man is the Indiana Jones of world missions!  It has been an extremely exciting, laughter-filled and anointed week!  The Lord has imparted much wisdom to us through Fred about what it means to bring truth into the nations (mainly the unreached nations: 10/40 window).  Fred has touched so many lives- him and his team, through massive amounts of prayer, have had the priviledge of being the starting points of revival in areas such as Azerbaijan, Tibet, and other parts of eastern Europe.

We had a strong glimpse of what God is calling His people to and what our walk of faith is truly about.  It is definitely not only about us and our own lives....but it is taking the blessings that the Lord graciously gives us and using those blessings to bless others, especially those who have not heard of the gift of salvation of our Lord!  God's word says, "The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness.  He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."  - 2 Peter 3:9 NIV

It is an awesome priviledge to be able to share in this "call to all".  This week we gained insight of what is still ahead of us in this amazing opportunity to serve the Living God!!

Peter Tsukahira
Okay, you know how last week I was feeling a little sluggish.....This week was the COMPLETE opposite!!!!  In fact this week, I feel, has been the most spiritually uplifting week.  Not only since I've been here, but probably in my entire life!  But perhaps it's because in recent years, I've really gained a heart for the situation in the Middle East and Peter has been giving us entire world history in the course of a week!  And I understood it all!!  Ha!!  And he's used more scripture than I've ever heard of in my life. It has been so great and very jaw-dropping.

This week has really been focused on God's sovereign choice of the nation of Israel and how He has, is, and will continue to use this nation to be a light to all nations.  Not because they are favored, but because they are God's first-born among the nations, and He will use them to reveal His name to all nations around the world.  It is His choice, who are we to question?  He has already done that through history, when Israel became it's own nation in 1948, after being dispersed all over the world during the war.  Keep Israel and the people of Israel in your heart when you pray...and pray for the peace of Jerusalem and pray that their people would come to know their Messiah, Yeshua, with a love and a peace that surpasses understanding.

World View

Me

Our speaker this week is very passionate about the Lord and is so focused on finding all the good attributes of God in every situation in life- whether in people, places, circumstances.  He has us write down at least 20 blessings we've had in our life, and for each blessing, he had us list 3 adjectives that would describe God's character in that particular person, place, or circumstance.  And we couldn't use the same adjective twice!  It really helped open our eyes to dig deep and see how God was present in each situation and it helped us to further our insight on His character.

But honestly, I must say that this week was a low week for me, I guess spiritually.  I guess the past 6 weeks I've been feeling so on fire and in tune with the Spirit of God and it just seems like humanly, I am a little sluggish.  The funny thing is, many other people have been feeling this same way and perhaps because it has reached the half-way point of our Discipleship Training.

This week has been more of a week of reflecting and refreshing and trying to tune back into God as much as I can so that I can finish strong.  I know the Lord understands that our spirit is willing, but our flesh is weak.  Yet, this hasn't stopped the Lord from working miracles in our midst.  He never rests....and He is always good....unchanging.  Praise Him!!

Guess what?!  The Lord has provided the full amount for every single person going on outreach so that means nobody needs to go home!  He is so faithful and awesome and has revealed yet again His sovereignty and goodness.

If you do feel in your heart that you would like to support and contribute somehow, I am currently still in need of basic living expenses.  And if you would like to, you may make checks payable to Church of the Living Christ for whatever amount you choose.  And then you can mail it to:

Church of the LIving Christ
171 Royal Avenue
Simi Valley, CA. 93065

And just put a sticky note that it is for Bernadette Bayani's Israel outreach fund.  My church will make sure to get the payment in to me as soon as possible before having to depart for Israel.  Thank you so much for your consideration and I pray that God will just bless you abundantly in all that you do for His glory!

With love,
Bernadette

Celebration of the Nations

Island Breeze
This week was quite different.  But in a good way!   It was really interesting to see how the different cultures of the world celebrate the love of God and worship Him.

We had gone over how, as missionaries, we need to learn how to ebrace whichever cutlure we decide to enter before we can share the good news with those particular people.  There is no ONE way to serve and worship our Lord.  It is about the heart.  As an example, one can worship God playing heavy metal type music, but praising Him with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength...and God will honor them, because only He knows what is truly in their heart.  Music like this would definitely keep many people from wanting to listen, but only God knows what is truly in their heart.

The worship team that was presented this week came from places all over Oceania (Figi, Samoa, New Zealand, etc)  It was very different to see their cultural dances and songs and how it reflected the love of God but after seeing it the whole week, you can really see a reverence and a love for God that much of the world is lacking.  So, this time was definitely eye opening and fulfilling.  It was wonderful!

Healing
I apologize for not updating last week's topic  :o(  But here I am, so....

There was a lot of healing that took place during this week with Pastor Gord Whyte.  However this time, it was not only emotional or spiritual, but physical!  People actually were physically healed this week and are still healed to this day, completely healed!  Praise God!!!  He just amazes me over and over again!!

This week's topic was so heavy that I don't know where to start.  It's one of those, "I wish you were here to see this" moments.  There were quite a lot of things that Pastor Gord had gone over......I took 13 pages of notes!  And those were only the notes I was able to catch!  This week dealt a lot with dealing with unforgiveness in our life & emotional/physical/spiritual soul ties and all that the enemy can use in distracting us or taking us farther and farther away from God, or focusing on God.  So a number of us dealt with ALL areas of unforgiveness in our life, soul ties and breaking them off in the name of Jesus, that we then can move forward into the anointing He has placed on our life.  Pastor Gord had prophesied Isaiah 61 over me and I'm still reading and praying about it.  But the Lord is doing mighty and powerful things and in all of it He's revealing His goodness and love for us!  This is great!!  :o)

Week of Hearing God's Voice

  • Feb. 3rd, 2008 at 2:20 PM

A lot of practical application took place this last week with Donna Jordan, who spoke on Hearing God's Voice.  It was really amazing to listen to her speak and to witness how sensitive she was to listening to the Lord, even as she spoke to us.  Really amazing.

I guess to others, she might have seemed a little weird, but I appreciated her openess to allowing God to speak through her and the fact that she never prepared notes!

Each week just keeps getting better and better (in my eyes). During one of the days, it poured rain and it was said that Kona hasn't seen a storm like this in years....but see, there was a lot of healing that took place between people this week: husbands and wives, children and parents, males and females, females and males and it almost seemed like God was washing our slates clean and perhaps, re-baptizing us?  The 'coincidence' between the rain and the moment at hand was truly amazing.  I have NEVER seen this type of openess among people, ESPECIALLY between married couples.  The willingness to put aside their pride and humble themselves to ask for forgiveness not only from God but from each other, brought tears to eyes that probably haven't felt tears in ages!  God is doing a good thing here.

Another testimony this week: this last thursday was the final day for all students to have their tuition paid in full.  Probably over 50 people were lacking funds by tens of thousands of dollars. By Thursday 3pm, everything needed to be paid in full otherwise they would unfortunately not be able to continue the program and would need to go home.  Everything was paid before 3pm!  It blows my mind!

Week of Spiritual Warfare

Leave it at the Cross
Hey everyone!

I would actually like to give a brief synopsis after each week of what's happened and I'll begin with the week of Spiritual Warfare.  Let's just say, this stuff is actually real and we actually have people on campus that are walking testimonies of that (which had happened during that particular week), and it's shouldn't be regarded as a scary or traumatic fear, but just as an acknowledgement that this spiritual battle is a reality.  But God does give us the ability and weapons to battle...He doesn't just leave us hung out to dry.  Thank Him for that!!

I, personally, stuggled with this fear earlier during that week.  But actually toward the end was released and overcome with a sense of victory and a peace that is just indescribable.  I won't put all the details, but maybe when I see you at home again, please feel free to ask me any questions you might have.

So, the week of Spiritual Warfare was overall, awesome.  We all learned quite a bit and many people have been released from their past, not only physically or emotionally, but spiritually.  God's working in mighty ways and His presence has been unbelievably real, as ironic as that may sound.

'Til next time....

Amazing!

Amazing things have definitely been happening here at DTS!!  It is really difficult to explain it all......truth is, I just wish you all were here so that you can experience for yourselves.....or at least I wish I could capture certain moments on tape.  But sometimes, those moments don't call for taking your camera out.  Oh this has just been such a thrilling experience for me so far!

God just becomes so much bigger, so much more personal, and so much more capable when you make it a point to spend quality time with Him.  I really wonder what He was thinking all those years I was ignoring Him and just went from day to day, thinking it was actually all about me.  He has been so patient, and I am realizing that more and more everyday.  This opportunity is once in a lifetime and I am so so grateful to everyone who has loved me, prayed for me, and supported me through this.  Thank you so much!!!!

Life at U of N has been really intersting....it has been a little over 2 weeks, but I feel like I have been here for 2 months!!  Though it has definitely been a GOOD 2 weeks!  Much learning and growing with God.  I wish that you could listen to everyone's testimonies of how the Lord has called them and how they got here- it is truly amazing!  I still can't get over the fact that people from 43 different nations are gathered here for ONE reason and ONE purpose alone....tell me that we're all crazy, haha!!  Just kidding.  It really blows my mind!

I would like to add more photos of worship and prayer.  God is definitely moving in force here among all of us.....I know photos won't really portray that so well, but just so that I can share with you I will add photos   :o)

I will be sure to add more as time goes on.  We've been pretty busy but is GOOD busy  ;o)

I miss you all!!
